Happy 2017! We have had a wonderful first week back at school! Term 2 is a time when we observe tremendous changes in our students. They are now familiar with their classroom and know the procedures. They are comfortable with their friends and teachers. When KG students return from the winter break, everyone is happy to be back at school, excited to learn and “stretch their brain”. It is a joy to remember how we started out in September, and now to see the amazing growth and maturity that has taken place in a few short months. Ma’shallah! A reminder that next Thursday, January 12, is Parent Conferences for the Main Building. There will be no classes that day, including ECE. Children will stay home. In the coming weeks, KG students will be continuing their study of Qatar. This includes learning about the camel, the oryx and the qataf (national animal and flower of Qatar). We will also be moving along in our foundational academics of numeracy, literacy, science and global studies. Our ECE garden is providing daily opportunity for the children to monitor the growth of our many plants (tomatoes, eggplant, onions, pumpkins, mint, potatoes, sunflowers, etc.) as well as develop a deep understanding of the process of photosynthesis and the important part plants play in sustaining life on planet earth. We love our “outdoor classroom”! In Term 2, as always, we are looking forward to more learning and fun in ECE. On behalf of the entire ECE staff, we wish all our families health, happiness and peace in 2017. See you at school! Shukrun, Ms. Pasha Dear ECE Parents:

Shukrun, Ms. Pasha FALCON VISIT AT ECE
Please click on your child's classroom button to see more pictures of our recent visit from the falcon, Qatar's national bird. The children have been learning about the parts of the falcon (eyes, beak, legs, talons, wings, etc.) as well as the life cycle and hunting practices of this magnificent bird. Many thanks to Mr. Abdullah and Mr. Faisal who were kind enough to share their time and knowledge to enrich our students education. Shukrun Kateer! Dear ECE Families:
I hope everyone is enjoying the wonderful winter weather of Qatar. So much learning and growing has taken place this term! The children are different people from when they first started in September. Along with the academic subjects presented in school, they are also learning independence, responsibility, and respect, important skills that make for a happy life! We appreciate the trust and support of all our ECE parents as we work together for the happiness and success of our young students. Check the Weebly sites from the school website page (www.emskhor.net - click on Weebly - click ECE) for current updates and photos of the happenings at our beautiful ECE. Both KG 1 and KG 2 children have started an in depth study of the falcon (Saqr), Qatar’s majestic National Bird. They are learning the parts of the falcon (talons, beak, wings, body, tail, etc.) the life cycle, habitat and also the hunting abilities of this fascinating bird. On Tuesday, December 13, the children will have a visit from a real falcon and be able to see it up close. We will also be wearing Qatar national colors. Your child can come dressed in maroon and white on Dec. 13, 14 and 15. Fun! The students are very busy in the garden. The plants they have sprouted from seed (tomatoes, eggplant, onions, mint, pumpkin, carrots, cucumber, etc.) are growing and we are looking forward to a harvest sometime in Term 2. The garden is an outdoor classroom, providing many learning opportunities in the areas of math, science, art, physical development and geography. The garden teaches us to respect and care for living things as well as providing magic and beauty as we watch things grow and change every day. Ms. Pasha will be away from Dec. 8-11. I have been invited to speak at an International Early Childhood Conference in Hong Kong. I will miss saying “good morning, Marhaba!” to all our students, but I will be back at the gate on Monday, December 12. As noted in your school calendar, the last day of Term 1 is Thursday, December 15. Report cards will be given to your children that day. Please be sure to check their backpack/envelope for the report card. Unclaimed report cards can be picked up at the main office in the big building during Term 2. The children will have a class party for the last day of school, December 15. Please send your child with a healthy snack or treat to share with their friends. Dismissal for ECE is 12:30, our regular time. As every Thursday, big school will dismiss at 12:39. On behalf of the entire ECE department, we wish each and all a safe, happy and restful vacation. We look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Tuesday, January 3, 2017! Shukrun, Ms. Pasha |
