Thursday, 16th February 2017 Dear Parents, Our students have been working hard and learning so many new things. They are also excited to see the garden grow and change every day. This week we reviewed the life cycle of the sunflower plant. The children have been involved in the development of the different stages in the life cycle of the sunflower, right from sowing the seeds to watering them and seeing them grow. They also learnt the vocabulary to go with that: ‘seeds, root, sprout, shoot, baby plant, bud, bloom, adult flower and falling seeds’. What an amazing experience for the child! Reading is one of the most important skills your child will learn in school. Your child has been bringing home a library book for reading practice, information, and enjoyment. Your child’s class visits the school library weekly to select books. At home, you can help your child by reading to him and asking questions about the story. Encourage your child to spend at least 15 minutes reading at home every day. We are very excited to announce about our upcoming Sports Day on the 28th of February. It will be a normal school day and the students will be participating in organized sports activities to promote team building and sportsmanship. We request that on this day, your child wears a T-Shirt, (the color of their class team) along with sports pants and PE shoes. The class colors are: KG 2 A - Ms. Lilia - GREEN KG 2 B - Ms. Chatura - PURPLE KG 2 C - Ms. Sameena – RED Students should bring healthy snacks and an extra bottle of water on that day. We hope to have a day of fun while we acquire many new skills. Remember to wear red, yellow or orange on February 22nd as we are reviewing orange. red + yellow = orange! Secondly, and very Important, some of the children from KG2b have not yet returned their library books that were given on 19 and 26 January. School policy states that children will be unable to borrow any more books from the library and that unreturned books must be paid for. Please be sure your child returns their library book by the end of this week (February 9) to avoid paying the fine, or having your child lose their chance to check out a library book. Some of our students still have Term 1 report cards in their school bag. Please check your child's bag and remove the report card, as this is for your home records. Remember to regularly check their bag for school work and discuss what they are bringing home. This will reinforce their learning and make for interesting conversations! Regards Ms. Chatura.
